This support is for you if…

You're dealing with anxiety, low mood, trauma, ADHD or a tough life change, and you'd like support from someone who understands.

You want practical, evidence-based help, matched to what you're going through, rather than figuring out the right therapy on your own.

And you'd like to do it by telehealth, from the comfort of home.

Why choose Dokotela

Matched to you

You're paired with a registered psychologist suited to your needs and therapeutic approach — not assigned at random.

Seen sooner

Because our psychologists consult by video, you can often be seen without a long wait — and from home, wherever you are in Australia.

Your GP stays in the loop

Your GP receives updates so everyone involved in your care stays coordinated.

Psychology support that fits your life

Our psychologists work with adults, and some with children and adolescents, across anxiety, depression, trauma, ADHD, OCD, grief and life transitions. They use evidence-based approaches — including EMDR, schema therapy, CBT, ACT and DBT — matched to what suits you.

Sessions are by secure video, so you can get support from home, anywhere in Australia.

How it works — referral, then matching

Seeing a psychologist starts with a referral — your GP can provide one, often as part of a Mental Health Treatment Plan. You or your GP can upload it online in a couple of minutes.

We then match you with a psychologist suited to your needs and book a time that works for you.

Fees and Medicare

With a referral and a Mental Health Treatment Plan, Medicare rebates apply to your sessions, and we submit the claim for you. See our fees page for full details.

Depending on the psychologist, we can also support WorkCover, CTP, DVA and NDIS referrals — our team will match you with someone who accepts your funding.

Upload your referral and our team will match you with a psychologist suited to your needs — for anxiety, depression, trauma, ADHD and more.

Uploading the referral takes only a couple of minutes.

GPs and health professionals are welcome to refer patients the same way.

A referral is required to see our psychologist. If you don't have one yet, speak with your GP about a referral to Dokotela.

Your questions answered

What happens in your first session?

Your first session is a chance for you and your psychologist to get to know each other. They'll ask about what's bringing you in, what you'd like to work on, and your background, so you can agree on a way forward together. There's no pressure — you share what you're comfortable with, at your own pace. Sessions are by secure video, so you can attend from home.

Do I need a referral to see a psychologist?

Yes. A referral is required to see one of our psychologists. Your GP can provide one, often as part of a Mental Health Treatment Plan, which may also make you eligible for Medicare rebates. Once you have a referral, you or your GP can upload it online and our team will take it from there.

What can a psychologist help with?

Our psychologists support people with a wide range of challenges — including anxiety, depression and low mood, trauma and PTSD, OCD, ADHD and focus difficulties, support for autistic and ADHD adults, grief, and navigating life transitions. If you're not sure whether we're the right fit, our team can help point you in the right direction.

How and where do sessions happen?

By secure video, from home. All psychology appointments are by telehealth, so you can attend from home or anywhere private with a stable internet connection — no travel needed, wherever you are in Australia. You'll just need a device with a camera and microphone.

Ongoing sessions are arranged at a pace and frequency that suits you and your psychologist.

You'll be matched to a psychologist suited to your needs, so you don't have to work out the right fit on your own.

How are psychology sessions funded?

With a valid referral and a Mental Health Treatment Plan from your GP, Medicare rebates may apply to your psychology sessions. You'll receive a clear estimate of any out-of-pocket cost before you begin. See our fees page for current details.

What's the difference between a psychologist and a psychiatrist?

Both support mental health, but they work differently. A psychologist helps you understand and work through difficulties using talking therapies and practical strategies — for things like anxiety, depression, trauma and stress. A psychiatrist is a medical doctor who can diagnose mental health conditions and prescribe medication.

Many people see both, and the two work well together. If you're not sure which is right for you, your GP can help — and Dokotela offers both psychology and psychiatry.

Can a psychologist diagnose ADHD or prescribe medication?

Psychologists can carry out assessments and provide psychological support for ADHD, including practical strategies for focus, organisation and day-to-day function. They don't prescribe medication — that's done by a doctor such as a psychiatrist or, in some cases, your GP.

If medication is something you'd like to explore, your GP or a psychiatrist is the right starting point, and Dokotela offers psychiatry as well.

We are here to help.
